To be honest I can't remember details but I think I must have been given this in the early 60's, probably by my grandmother. I do remember however the frustrations I had because it sews a chain stitich ( no bobbin) and therefore I would make something and if I didn't end it off properly ( and what little girl pays attention to those sorts of details) the whole thing would unravel. This probably also explains why it is still is good condition - I simply stopped using it and it was packed away in the cupboard for over 40 years. Colly thought it was fun though to use with just paper and made patterns. I love the concentration in his face. Of course they want fabric to try but that would mean that I would actually have to plan something for them to do....
It is really hot and sticky here today - I am thinking of putting the airconditioning on and making something. But it is too hot to think and I feel if I start something, no matter how small it is I will mess it up. Maybe it shows that sometimes it is nice to have something small cut out and ready to go. Maybe when the house has cooled down I will feel differently. Sounds like a plan....

What an adorable little machine. I hope Colly enjoys it for some time.
My parents moved out of their home of 50 years last summer. What a LOT of stuff we found and threw away. But there some great treasures too.
When you want to do a foundation pieced block you can get you son to do a little bit of pre-perforation work for you on his sewing machine. I think that would work great :)
Hi Bettsy, how lovely to find your comment on my blog(Pieces) this morning..*VBS* Always nice to see new faces *S*
And would you believe in all the years since I watched that film, you are the FIRST person I've ever come across that saw it too!!! Wow! I'm so happy to share that with you. Wish we could sit and share a cuppa and talk about stuff..*VBS*
Your little guy is adorable, and what a unique machine. I've never seen one that does a chain stitch.
You have my deepest sympathy as you go through the "moving out" process with mum. I emptied about 40 years worth of stuff out of my house in 2002 when I decided to sell and take a senior apt. I feel I did the hardest part first, I listed the house. It sold in 2 days. Gave me 60 days til closing. I called an antique dealer I liked and sold most of my "old" stuff. That was the hardest part I think. Some I probably could have "fit" into the new space, but it was good to give some other person a chance to own it. I do recomend a storage unit(rented) if she gets too bogged down in the process. It was easier for me to get rid of more by the next summer. It's 4+ years later now, and some that I haven't used can go this summer. At least now it all fits in my one car garage.
Please do stop by anytime, or email me if I can offer encouragement or advice..LOL I'll be back to see what you find to sew once it cools off..*VBS* Hugs, Finn
What a cutie! Oh, and the machine is nice too -- LOL. Colly could perforate some machine quilting designs for you to chalk over too - he looks like he's having a great time.
Thank you for visiting my blog...child and machine always welcome at my home. I promise not to return in 40 years lol
I am trying to reduce how much is in my house too, to avoid a big problem when I move. It is hard - and I do feel like giving it to people, but I'm sure they won't know what to do with all this stuff either!
That's probably worth something today, too! I do not envy you as your mother goes through this clearing out process.
I'm with you sister!!
How can you seriously sew here at the moment! I demand some snow, and snow days as well where the US people get to stay home with nothing to do but sew for a week!! I read with envy..but would hope the darlings could still get to School!! And then I'd get sick of it after a day and want the pool back! love the industrious face on Colly! Cheers, Tracey
what a great little machine- i LOVE the box!
What a cutie (the machine as well).
Well, I see I haven't been too original in my comment here! (must learn to read what others have written first)
